Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the CEO and collaborate with the Board of Directors to shape our financial strategy and ensure the fiscal health of the organization and its sponsored projects. Your leadership will be essential in fostering a culture of transparency and efficiency while enhancing our commitment to exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial and Operational Management
Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and financial reporting to ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory standards.
Manage cash flow and develop accurate forecasting to support the organization's financial health.
Collaborate with the CEO and Board to create strategic and annual plans that align budgets with organizational goals and cost management.
Monitor budget progress, presenting financial metrics to both internal and external stakeholders.
Utilize predictive modeling and financial analysis to inform our operational and business strategies.
Partner with consultants and the CEO to implement systems that meet the evolving needs of the organization.
Engage with the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board regarding trends, budgets, and effective cost management.
Participate in policy development as an integral member of the senior management team.
Optimize banking relationships to enhance financial management practices.
Represent the organization to financial partners, staying informed about nonprofit audit best practices and regulations.
Team Management
Hire, coach, and develop a skilled accounting and finance team; manage work allocation and conduct performance evaluations.
Assess and streamline processes for improved efficiency and cross-training.
Collaborate with senior leaders to foster effective cross-functional teamwork and exceptional customer service.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field; CPA certification is strongly preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of direct experience in nonprofit financial management, with a solid understanding of GAAP and FASB accounting standards, as well as grant financials and reporting requirements.
Experience working within a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $15 million, with familiarity in fundraising regulations, revenue recognition, and reporting.
Proven track record of successfully leading and managing strategic, financial, and operational functions within a high-impact nonprofit organization.
Ability to serve as a strategic partner, demonstrating creative and entrepreneurial thinking while executing and operationalizing new initiatives.
Experience in translating financial data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations aligned with the organization's vision and mission.
Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with a history of impactful stakeholder engagement.
Proficiency in nonprofit finance and accounting systems, along with advanced computer skills.
Experience managing risk, insurance liability issues, and the contracting and reporting processes.
Previous involvement in leading systems upgrade initiatives.
Excellent people management skills, with a focus on inclusive leadership and collaborative problem-solving.
Resourceful in setting priorities, identifying efficiencies, and making strategic investments in personnel, systems, and facilities.
High integrity and dependability.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Background in nonprofit finance through undergraduate and/or graduate studies.
