The Position
We are looking for an Industrial Designer who can work with our fabrication group and hardware Workshop team. We are looking for someone who can help us with custom exhibits, many of which have integrated technology. In addition, the Industrial Designer would also contribute to modifications to our existing touch table and display products, including tangible objects and other IoT elements. The work will consist of drafting, prototyping with 3D printers, laser cutters, and/or CNC and other devices and/or materials, and revising and packaging drawings for internal and external fabricators. Our clients are world-famous museums, zoos, aquariums, and Fortune 500 companies located around the world. This in-person position is at Ideum's studios in scenic Corrales, New Mexico (near Albuquerque and an hour from Santa Fe).
The candidate would work closely with our Senior Industrial Designer, Director of Workshop, Producers, Exhibit Designers, and other staff. In addition, the Industrial Designer will work with our Product Manager and the hardware Workshop team, who develop, build, and support our products. The Industrial Designer will report to the Director of Fabrication and be part of the fabrication team at Ideum. This is a full-time, onsite position in Corrales, New Mexico.
We are looking for someone with demonstrated industrial design skills. The ideal candidate has a passion for design and materials and is looking for new growth opportunities.
Qualifications
Drafting ability and experience with Solid Works, Fusion360, and/or Rhino
A minimum of 3 years of Industrial design experience
Excellent at translating an idea into a design
Experience creating prototypes
Can see a project through from conception to completion
At a minimum, basic knowledge of shop tools
Computer skills, experience with Windows
Detail-oriented
A willingness to learn new techniques and how to operate new equipment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to contribute to documentation and other written materials
Highly motivated and self-directed
Ability to work in a team environment
Strong organizational skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Extra Credit:
3D printing experience
CNC, laser cutter, and/or mill experience
Experience with electronics and/or AV gear
IT Experience
Experience with electrical systems
Experience with technical documentation
Experience in the museum or non-profit world

Benefits and Incentives
Compensation between $50,000 - $65,000, depending on experience
