The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible, accountable and has the authority for patient and financial outcomes that result from the quality of care within an assigned patient population. Primary area of responsibility is the trauma population. Integrating excellent communication skills, leadership, decision-making abilities, and advanced knowledge and clinical skills. The NP continuously strives for improvements in the delivery and outcomes of patient care. The NP will be responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting clinical data elements for MTQIP eligible cases as required for participation in the Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program (MTQIP), a Blue Cross Blue Shield/Blue Care Network of Michigan-funded Collaborative Qualtiy Initiative (CQI). The NP�s chief responsibility is to work collaboratively with the trauma program registry staff, clinical staff and the Trauma Program Manager (TPM), and Trauma Medical Director (TMD) to collect, analyze and submit data to MTQIP in a timely manner. Must be able to interact appropriately with the patients and families in the following categories: Trauma patients; Pediatric 0-17, Adult 18-64 yrs and Geriatric 65+. Responsibilities:Collaborates in the development, revision and evaluation of a multidisciplinary plan of care by continuously assessing patient and family needs through the continuum of care. Provides leadership in the management of trauma patients. Has exceptional understanding of the injury processes and treatment regimes associated with the trauma patient population. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and ability to follow-through regarding medications, treatment and preventative care. Recommends proposed therapeutics (drugs, equipment, products) based on an analysis of cost-effectiveness, clinical efficacy, and efficiency. Has collaborative practice agreement with Medical Director of Trauma program. The Trauma NP is credentialed to function in an expanded nursing role and is responsible for the consistent management of a designated caseload of trauma patients with consultation and collaboration of the patient�s trauma surgeon and consulting physicians. The Trauma NP is authorized under their Nurse Practitioner alliance to independently write orders and document care provided in the management of the trauma population in accordance with their established collaboration with the TMD. Exhibits expertise in patient care, family education & staff support. Analyzes practice and designs interdisciplinary interventions from implementation and testing toward achievement of evidenced based/best practice for patients. Provides leadership to the health care team to develop, implement and evaluate new patient care programs. Prepares and presents periodic outcomes reports for assigned trauma patient population. Facilitates and conducts outcomes research in collaboration with staff and other disciplines, i.e.; trauma related research. Maintains professional development through seminars, workshops, inservice activities, and current professional literature. Participates as a leader of the MTQIP collaborative and complication identification and management along with the TMD and TPM. Demonstrates and communicates clinical expertise in assigned patient population, role modeling application of clinical practice standards Identifies opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as requested by the MTQIP Coordinating Center. Attend consortium-wide meetings and requested MTQIP-MCR meetings as a representative of the organization, acting as a resource regarding the consortium within their institution, maintaining regular contact with MTQIP surgical champions and other members of the trauma team at the institution. Prepare for and available for site audits by the MTQIP Coordination Center, resolving data discrepancies and responding to the MTQIP Coordinating Center requests in a timely fashion. Works under the supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and the Trauma Medical Director and collaboratively with trauma registry personnel, Trauma PA, staff, trauma surgeons and physician groups to develop and implement standard practice, policies and procedures that support effective and efficient care and validates reliability of information gathered.
Qualifications:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE � Graduate from an accredited institution � Certification as a Physician�s Assistant/Nurse Practitioner � Current license to practice in the State of Michigan � Continuing medical education as required by the certification body � ACLS Certified required, ATLS preferred or within 6 months of hiring. � Acute care/ICU/ED/Trauma experiences, with advanced degrees (preferred) � Clinical experience in acute care/ICU/ED and/or Trauma focus (preferred) KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledge of Covenant systems, policies and procedures. Knowledge of acute care protocols, administration of medications and treatments, delivery of care and documentation of care. Knowledge of computer programs and applications Sound judgment in difficult/sensitive situations. Demonstrated ability to meet Covenant�s leadership expectations (strategic leadership, character, interpersonal, skills, job performance, and results). Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships. Analytical skills necessary to plan, develop and administer care to a wide variety of patients. Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and lead teams. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
