Job:

Painter/Mason (Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm RDO: Sat/Sun)

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Maintenance and Trades (or as directed by Management), this individual is to provide semi-skilled work in painting and perform routine and varied unskilled tasks in the service and trades. Responsible for preparing surfaces for painting, applying paints to machinery, equipment, furniture, interiors and/or buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This section should include the following:

  • Paint walls, equipment, buildings, bridges and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
  • Finishing/Coating/Painting.
  • Paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, lacquers and redecorates walls, woodwork and fixtures.
  • Removes old finishes using a scraper, chemical compounds or a blowtorch.
  • Fills nail holes, joints and cracks in walls with plaster or other filler.
  • Scrapes, sandpapers and sizes surfaces preparatory to painting.
  • Mixes paint and matches colors; uses brushes, sprayers or rollers to apply paint or other coatings.
  • Paint, patch and repairs surfaces.
  • Checks condition of ceilings, walls and woodwork.
  • Observes and protects locks, receptacles, sprinkler heads and other items that should not be painted.
  • Maintains proper ventilation paying particular attention to other persons in and near the work area.
  • Sees that work areas are properly protected, including covering work areas with appropriate deep canvas cloths, plastic coverings and other suitable materials. Removes spattered paint after job is completed.
  • Erects or rigs scaffolds or uses riggings, hoist, ladders, scaffolding, lifts and other various equipment used in painting.
  • Work performed in accordance with standard trade practices and conformity to specifications.
  • Carries out work assignment in a professional manner.
  • Cleans up on a daily basis to include equipment, brushes, etc. and makes every effort to keep dust and debris down to the lowest level possible.
  • Maintains the proper condition of ladders, scaffolding and all other equipment.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safety procedures for working on ladders, scaffolds and lifts.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations as it may pertain to OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of paint procedures and methods of application as well as products relating to surface preparation.

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area; related skills such as plastering, patching, staining, refinishing wood work.
  • Capable of using the tools of the painting trade, including the use of spray guns, sanding equipment, ladders and scaffolding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in Higher Educations preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb and work in cramped, unconditioned or high places and perform work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to crawl, bend, stoop, kneel for long periods to access to pipes, valves, access doors, and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.

$42.37/hr regular rate - $38.13/hr probationary rate*

*Effective 10/1/24, the regular rate will be increased to $43.64/hr and the probationary rate will be $39.28/hr

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
