Why you'll want to come to work:

PlayQ is looking for an imaginative Senior 2D Concept Artist to concept and illustrate whimsical environments, props, icons, and characters. This position will work remotely collaborating with the Art Director and Design team to create and deliver concepts that are fun, whimsical, and appealing to a mass market.

Responsibilities in this role will range from rough sketch concepts to final illustrative render in certain instances. This position offers an exciting opportunity to concept a wide variety of themes and environments while working with an expert-level art team to deliver polished art to millions of players around the world.

What you'll get to create:

  • Concept Development: Create and refine 2D concepts that align with our visual strategy and enhance the overall player experience across whimsical environments, props, and characters.
  • Artistic Excellence: Deliver high-quality concept art that meets visual benchmarks and project timelines, contributing to the game's artistic appeal and market success.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with 3D artists to ensure seamless translation of concepts into final models, guiding adjustments to achieve visual consistency and quality.
  • Visual Refinement: Provide detailed paint-overs and final touches to enhance color, lighting, and details on 3D renders, ensuring polished visuals that align with creative goals.
  • Creative Problem Solving: Develop creative solutions and iterate on concepts to address feedback from our art director and key stakeholders, maintaining a high standard of visual quality.
  • Adapt and Iterate: Continuously refine artistic processes and incorporate feedback to enhance concept art effectiveness and visual appeal, staying responsive to project needs.

What you'll bring to the team:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Animation, or related field.
  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience as a concept artist with a portfolio demonstrating your ability to create art that enhances the player experience and drives engagement.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with demonstrated ability to deliver stylized, mass-market appeal art.
  • Creative Aptitude: Strong creative problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt and execute feedback into high-quality visual assets.
  • Artistic Insight: Comprehensive knowledge of art direction and casual game aesthetics, applied through the development of compelling 2D concepts.
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, providing guidance and ensuring alignment on creative vision.

  • Experience with 3D software

At PlayQ, we leverage competitive benchmarking data when setting each role’s base pay range. Individual base salary will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, scope of role, business need and geographic location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$50,000-$90,000 USD

  • In-office location: Santa Monica, CA
  • This role is open to remote employees located in select US states including California, Washington, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and Georgia.
  • This role is offered as a full time position.
