Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus Upper Division is seeking a Social Studies Teacher to join their team! This position will teach 6th Grade Hawaiian History, Papa ʻŌiwi.
ʻŌiwi is a substantial part of something. It is that which gives character or adds ornament. As an ʻōiwi, there are kuleana that we need to fulfill. We need to know our language, our traditions, our culture, and how we are connected to our ʻāina. Through an ʻōiwi perspective, haumāna will be encouraged to work both independently and cooperatively in groups. Students will be asked to discover their passions and interests with the intent of being more active, involved, and engaged with their curriculum. Students will push their thinking through class discussions, projects, and subsequent student led activities. Each quarter, each haumāna will navigate through a variety of lessons to help in class discussions around issues in their communities, connecting back to cultural foundations, and their place in a global context.
This is a 2-year Defined Term position with full employee benefits.
