Job Description

Hennepin County's Mental Health Center (MHC) within Human Services Public Health (HSPH) is offering an opportunity for a Senior Psychiatric Social Worker to provide outpatient clinical assessment, care coordination, and treatment services as a member of MHC’s multidisciplinary treatment team.

The Mental Health Center is a state-licensed community mental health clinic. The MHC’s team of support and provider professionals provides comprehensive outpatient mental health services to adults with serious mental illness as well as those with co-occurring substance use disorders. Additionally, MHC serves children, adolescents, and families, many of whom are involved with other county programs. Our recent certification as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) is allowing us to advance our goals of service excellence and the provision of personalized, coordinated, equitable care for persons we serve. Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both onsite at the Mental Health Center at 2215 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407, and  remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.  

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of children, youth, and adults to determine appropriate treatments based on the initial problem, current mental status, and diagnostic impressions.
  • Prepare diagnostic assessment reports, including use of self-reporting tools, presenting problems, biopsychosocial history, and diagnoses.  

  • Facilitate the development of a person-/family-centered integrated treatment plan based on identified needs and preferences.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based interventions to children, youth, adults, and families who may be involved with child protection and/or juvenile justice.
  • Document all client and client-related encounters in Epic according to MHC standards.

  • Provide/oversee care coordination to enable and support care pathways.  

  • Participate in multidisciplinary consultation meetings with psychiatrists, APRNs, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health practitioners and professionals.  

  • Participate in MHC’s quality improvement efforts, including those directed toward anti-racism, equity, and trauma awareness.  

Need to have:
  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field and two or more years of post-master's degree experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.  
  • Qualification as a Mental Health Professional in the state of Minnesota.
  • Current licensure as one or more of the following:
    • Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work. 
    • Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
    • Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy.
    • Psychologist (LP) by the Minnesota Board of Psychology.
Nice to have:
  • Experience: 
    • Working with individuals from diverse populations in race, ethnicity, age, gender, identity, ability, and sexual orientation.
    • Working with the child protection and juvenile correction systems.
    • As a registered Play Therapist or working towards certification.

    • Working with Epic, or another similar electronic health record system.  

  • Training in the DC:0-5TM Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood.
  • Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
  • Fluency in Spanish, Somali, or another language(s) in addition to English.

Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
