Job Description
Job Description We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?
Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating new technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. Being on the EVDD team means building the future as Ford’s center of innovation and growth through electric and connected vehicles and services.
Ford is seeking an experienced integration engineer who will be responsible for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sub system device and feature development. This individual would ensure HVAC hardware and firmware is designed, implemented, and tested to meet Ford’s standards for safety and customer experience.
Ford is developing next generation integrated thermal systems that manage customer facing features such as the cabin climate, as well as the thermal needs of powertrain systems like the battery and power electronics. The thermal integration engineer will lead activities to select and introduce new hardware, create or refine new features and functionality, optimize performance and efficiency, as well as making the system robust and fault tolerant. It is expected that this engineer would master the details of the HVAC system by reviewing source code, root causing issues, and developing solutions to complex problems hands on in the lab or by performing in vehicle testing.
Responsibilities What you’ll be able to do: - Lead HVAC sub system integration by developing, executing, and reporting on integration test plans for hardware components and firmware features to rapidly retire risk from new designs and provide feedback to development teams.
- Work cross-functionally among mechanical, electrical, software and system architecture aspects and collaborate with design and development engineers across the organization to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive system design, requirements, and interfaces.
- Define and test software requirements for HVAC components, system functions, and customer features
- Develop validation strategies for these features, working with validation teams to ensure test coverage.
- Develop prototype test setups to integrate new subsystems with simulated and actual vehicle components
- Dig into data and source code to identify and debug issues at the component and system levels, proposing and leading implementation of robust solutions
- Lead and manage integration of initial prototype systems including bring-up, debug, and engineering test of alpha- and beta-phase prototype vehicles
Qualifications The minimum requirements we seek: - Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to keep multiple projects moving forwards in parallel
- Thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical fundamentals and ability to apply them to automotive concepts.
- Experience with electrical / electro-mechanical devices involving networked micro controllers and embedded software
- Proven debugging and diagnostic skills in electrical, mechanical, and software domains
- Strong comprehension of embedded software development languages (C/C++)
Preferred Requirements: - Experience with Python
- Experience with CAN / LIN / Ethernet & associated software tools
- Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA)
- Knowledge of thermal physics principles and fluid dynamics
What you’ll receive in return: As part of the Ford family, you’ll enjoy excellent compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous PTO, retirement, savings and stock investment plans, incentive compensation and much more. You’ll also experience exciting opportunities for professional and personal growth and recognition.
If you have what it takes to help us redefine the future of mobility, we would love to have you join us.
